Man Accidentally Shoots Self In Leg at Southridge
A 65-year-old was trying to secure weapon in his vehicle when it accidentally discharged.
A 65-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Southridge parking lot.
According to Greendale Police Department logs, the man was attempting to secure the weapon in his vehicle when the gun discharged. Paramedics transported him to the hospital.
The log also showed a 21-year-old man was arrested in the incident, but the reason wasn't clear.
It's the second time in a little more than a year that a gun was accidentally fired on Southridge property. In November 2011, an off-duty Milwaukee police officer inadvertently discharged his weapon while shopping.

Oh, here we go. The liberal media will spout off now just because a few guns were fired off at the mall since concealed carry became legal. The real story is before concealed carry was in place there were gunshots being fired all the time at the malls around here, but it was by the bad guys. Now we have our patriots out there firing off rounds to protect the fine people at Southridge. Stop persecuting this man for being a responsible gun owner who fired off his gun within his means of the law.

Gunshots are NOT being fired in Southridge "all the time" unless you count the two people that proved to be irresponsible with their weapons. The gun owner was "within his means of the law?" Seriously? He had no reason to discharge his weapon and was negligent. He was so negligent, in fact, that he shot himself and could have hurt someone else. Last time I checked, it's not "within the means of the law" to discharge a weapon within village/city limits. It certainly wasn't self-defense. Whether you are for or against concealed carry, you must admit that this guy screwed up. Your argument lacks logic and gives those that wish to carry weapons a bad name. People that aren't fit to carry shouldn't carry and this guy has proven to not be fit to carry and was lucky he didn't win a Darwin award.

I don't know if I qualify as the "liberal media," but in the eyes of many in Greendale, I fit the bill, so here goes my rant:
"...before concealed carry was in place there were gunshots being fired all the time at the malls around here" ~ Really? I don't EVER remember a gun being fired at Southridge or the Bed Bath & Beyond strip mall, ever... until Walker's concealed/carry law kicked in.
Since C/C has become law we have had an off duty officer drop his gun while reaching for his wallet, causing it to hit the ground at the mall, discharge and injure a teen girl in the leg, and most recently, this clumsy geriatric John Wayne who feels the need to be in the parking lot of Southridge with his gun (and I thought he was only using his 26 foot long Buick as protection). The only thing I feel the need to carry while in the parking lot at Southridge is a credit card and my Boston Store coupon... especially with my wife's birthday right around the corner.
If there are any more of you wild, wild west types who think they are helping by patrolling the mean streets of the suburban shopping malls, please think again... Occasionally I go to the mall with my family and the last thing we are trying to leave with is a silver bullet souvenir.

Did Wisconsin's Concealed Carry law really have anything to do with the off-duty cop at Southridge? The Law Enforcement officers Safety Act of 2004 allowed off duty cops to carry in all 50 states. Prior to that law, I believe that off duty officers in Wisconsin could conceal carry in their jurisdiction if their local department allowed it.

Is it possible to talk about gun issues and not talk about conservatives or liberals? Just address the issue of a man accidentally discharging his weapon. That's what this article is about.
