Authorities say a 58-year-old West Allis man charged with his fifth drunken driving offense had a 10-year-old child in the car at the time of his arrest.

Greendale police pulled over Jeffrey Schweiner about 10 p.m. Feb. 3 at Loomis Road and Grange Avenue after an officer noticed his truck's registration was expired, according to a criminal complaint.

Schweiner was arrested after failing field sobriety tests, and a breath test revealed a blood-alcohol content of .23.

He was charged Thursday with operating while intoxicated, fifth or sixth offense, with a minor child in the vehicle.

A fifth or sixth drunken driving offense is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of three years prison and three years extended supervision, plusa $10,000 fine. But because a child under 16 years old was in the car, the maximum sentence doubles.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.

Schweiner was previously convicted of drunken driving in 2008, 2003 and twice in 1998.
