A line of customers circled the new Southridge Macy’s on Wednesday morning in anticipation of the Grand Opening ribbon cutting ceremony.

Macy’s celebrated its grand opening by giving the first 500 customers a $10 gift. Three of those customers were surprised with $500 gift cards.

Kathy McNally of Greenfield was one of the lucky customers to win a $500 gift card.

"I usually shop out at Mayfair but now that we have one at Southridge, it’s closer to home," McNally said.

Southridge Macy's Charity Shopping Day last Saturday raised more than $15,000 for about 40 Milwaukee-area Charities. Organizations sold $5 shopping passes and were able to keep all the proceeds.

Greendale organizations that participated were the Greendale Chamber of Commerce, St. Alphonsus Congregation and Root River Junior Women's Club Inc.

The store is a two-level building totaling 150,000 square feet and includes a full range of apparel and accessories for women, men and children as well as housewares, home textile and luggage.

Macy's opening comes at a crucial time, when the 76th street corridor is seeing a lot of development.

Southridge Mall is undergoing a $52 million dollar renovation

Wal-Mart has started construction across the street from the mall.

The senior-living complex is almost fully constructed.

Boston Store is also going through an $8.5 million renovation.

A building permit has been submitted for a Panda Express.

Below are activities going on throughout the day at the new Macy's.
