Later Hours for Village Center Businesses
There's been a lot of talk about what hours the Village Center businesses should be open, and it appears some of them have taken the advice to heart.
Jim Davenport sent an email to Patch on Wednesday letting us know that starting Oct. 1 a number of Village Center businesses will be open late two days a week.
New hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays for the following businesses:
- Margo's Village Boutique
- More Margo's
- Apples of Eden
- Cherri's Savor the Flavor
- They Grow Like Weeds
- The Shoppe Around the Corner
- Prescott-Miller Jewelers
- Ferch's Malt Shope and Grille
- Village Hair Design
The hours of operation in the Village Center has been a hot topic in Greendale, with some—including Village President John Hermes—criticizing the businesses for keeping short hours, and business owners saying they aren't seeing village residents frequent their shops.
Greendale Patch surveyed site users about Village Center business hours in May, and found people overwhelmingly supported changing store hours to include Sundays, and later weeknight hours.
On the question about Sunday hours, 151 votes came in favor of having shops open both days on weekends, with 74 votes against, a 67-32 percent split. When we asked about how late stores should be open, only 1 percent (three votes) favored closing at 5 p.m., and 7 percent (17 votes) wanted stores open until 9 p.m. The vast majority, 92 percent (209 votes), supported later closing times, with about 30 percent of the total votes supporting closing times of 6 p.m., 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.
