It should come as no surprise that the Greendale Marching Band won its consecutive eighth state championship in its Class AA division.

Greendale placed first with a score of 87.40 at WSMA State Marching competition on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The team also won Best Musical Presentation, Best Visual Presentation, and Best Colorguard.

Tom Reifenberg, Director of the Greendale Marching Band, owes much of the band’s success to the immense community support.

“Thank you to the parents, community, and the school district for supporting arts,” Reifenberg said. “It’s a big team effort of the community.”

When asked how the band got to this high level of continued success Reifenberg said, “The expectations of excellence has been set by all the kids in the classes before and every year the kids want to be as good or better than the year before. The kids kind of police themselves that they want to be as good as they want to be.”

The marching band will move on to compete in he Bands of America Grand National Championships from November 8-10. Ninety bands from all over the country will perform.

“The trophies and awards are nice, but the feeling knowing that you did your absolute best that’s what’s really cool about it,” Reifenberg said.

I just got to say one thing! This by far is the most amazing thing that I have ever seen. The hard work that these kids do to put something like this on is absolutely incredible! I'm at every football game and one of the things I always enjoy doing is watching the looks on the visiting fan's faces as they watch the band perform. It brings chills down my spine every time! Congratulations to all of the kids for a job well done. Not only have you made GHS proud, you have made the entire community of Greendale proud. And of course a big shout-out to Mr. Tom Reifenberg and the rest of his staff for putting this all together. Greendale's band by far is second to none!
