Man Allegedly Tosses Beer Cans at People, Then Meets Police With Knives
Suspect, 62, tells people he has bombs to blow up an apartment building during a Friday incident.
A 62-year-old Greendale man is facing charges after he allegedly threw beer cans at two people outside an apartment complex then claimed to have bombs to blow the place up before eventually arming himself with kitchen knives when police officers arrived.
Peter Nicholas Bartell was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Saturday with one count of disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon. If convicted, he faces up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
On Friday, Greendale police officers were called to an apartment complex in the 6800 block of Crocus Court after witnesses saw Bartell toss beer cans at two people in the parking lot then yell at them that he had knives and bombs to blow up the building.
When officers arrived, Bartell was standing in the hallway of the building and holding a serrated knife and meat clever. Officers eventually talked him out of the hallway, but he continued to hold the knives.
They continued to tell Bartell to drop the knives, so he took two steps towards the officers, then stabbed the knives into the ground at his feet. The officers tried to handcuff Bartell, but he resisted by grabbing an officer’s hands.
Eventually they were able to get cuffs on him while he was on the ground. Bartell then rolled onto his back and a steak knife fell out of his pocket.
Bartell was assigned a $300 signature bond while awaiting trial.
