Things are moving forward in the plan to create a new, mixed-use facility to be called Greendale Community Learning Center (CLC) housing the Public Library, the Health Department and the Park and Recreation Department.

The joint effort between the Village of Greendale and the Greendale School District would bring those three departments together in the current public library building at 5647 Broad Street. 

The partnership between the village, district and library was announced over the summer, and the village and district have approved the agreement that will let the project go forward.

As with many government collaborations, this one comes with an expected cost savings. But this one brings something a little different as well: Increased services for Greendale residents.

The three partners will share the $150,000 renovation cost. 

The latest:  The Village is bidding the project and as soon as the bids are received, each board will review them and consider approval. 

Village Manager Todd Michaels said he was told by the Director of the Public Policy Forum that they should apply for an award once the project is completed due to the the rarity of three government entities working on a project such as this one. 

What’s next: The Greendale Public Library Director Gary Niebuhr said he hopes to have construction start early in 2013 and be completed by June.
