The Greendale High School Varsity Cheer team competed in the Super Large Varsity division and placed fourth place this past weekend.
The National High School Cheerleading Championship was held at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, and nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 to over 100 million homes. Over 400 teams competed in four different venues. Divisions were structured around number of team members and school size.
“There were teams from 19 different states and all teams in finals performed great routines, a true national championship,” said Coach Tina Zamjahn. “Varsity performed a flawless finals routine and placed fourth. The team was thrilled with their performances and how high they placed.”
Zamjahn said that key to this year's accomplishment was the team's improved tumbling skills.
"With 27 girls on the team, Varsity also strived to perform a clean and structured two and a half minute routine which included stunts, pyramids, standing and running tumbling, jumps and dance," Zamjahn said.
ESPN will televise finals in April.
