Free Glow Sticks for Trick-or-Treating
The Greendale Police Department and Halloween Express are teaming up to provide free glow sticks to Trick-or-Treaters.
Greendale Police and Halloween Express are collaborating to provide glows sticks to trick-or-treaters to compliment the change to evening hours.
Trick-or-treat hours were adjusted this year to provide for the option of trick-or-treating after sunset.
Police said in a press release that the sun will set at around 6 p.m. on October 30. The Greendale Police Department has assigned police officers to extra patrols during Trick-or-Treating.
The public celebrations committee also changed the hours of the Halloween parade to 3 p.m.
The free glow sticks will be given at a tent at the end of the
parade route or stop at the Greendale Police Station during trick-or-treat hours (while supplies last).
Halloween Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treating from Greendale Police:
- Always Trick-or-Treat with a supervising adult.
- There is safety in numbers, always Trick-or-Treat with friends.
- Be careful when you cross a street and look in both directions to make sure no cars coming.
- It is important that costumes allow for a clear field of vision. Face paint is recommended, but if a mask is used, ensure eye holes are large enough as to not cover the face.
- Make your costume out of bright colors or affix reflective strips on your clothing.
- Vehicles may not be able to see you if you wear dark clothing.
- Carry a flashlight or glow stick in order to help vehicles see you better.
Halloween Safety Tips for Drivers
- Pay extra attention, particularly to crosswalks, intersections and the side of the road.
- Kids tend to walk along the curbs, cutting across the street to get to other homes.
- Keep scanning all around you as you drive, whether as thru traffic or along with your kids as they Trick-or-Treat.
- Drive below the posted speed limit in residential areas during trick-or-treating hours. This will allow you time to brake if you see a child dart in front of you.
- Do not pass other vehicles that have stopped in the roadway, they could be dropping off children.
