We ended up going to Eagle Spruce Farm and would recommend it. They have lots of nice sized trees - all spruce. $45 each is a great deal. Last year we bought a similar tree for twice that. http://www.eaglechristmastrees.com
I would not recommend Green Acres Farm in New Berlin for cut your own. But they do have good pre-cut ones.

Green Acres lost its steam. The first year we went was great. Second and third year we "settled" on our selection and found trees smaller than we wanted. Last year we went and then left without anything (and very confused kids). It is for sale. Clearly there is not a long term vision there. Too bad.

We've gone to green acres, but it's been many years. Loved a little known place in Muskego called Hein's because their balsams weren't as dense, so you could hang more ornaments on the tree. However, they looked pretty picked over last year and we opted for a local lot of precut trees, and just pruned out branches to offer the same thing. Happy hunting!

Sorry, we tried cutting our own tree once for the 'wonderful family experience'. We drove more miles than we would have visiting a tree lot, I froze half to death, and I tripped over numerous tree roots on our way out to where the big trees were supposed to be, only to find a very poor and scraggy selection.
We ended up going back to a tree lot.

@Mike in OC -- We changed to an artificial tree about six or seven years ago, but I do remember the last time we went to a tree lot as a family. It was Stein's Garden Center in Waukesha, and my son drove us in his old beater of a truck so we could just throw the tree in the back. It was special because after all the years we had been doing the driving it was our son doing it now.
There were other years where we bought our tree at a lot within walking distance and carried it home on our shoulders. I love the smell of tree lots -- better than a windy field. I guess you make your own memories and traditions, no matter what.

We went to Family Trees Of East Troy yesterday (second year doing so) and got a great tree! They provide the saws, transport the tree back to the front, shake and bail. There is also free hot cocoa. We took the whole family, including the dog and it was wonderful. It takes about a half hour from Brookfield. I highly recommend checking them out!

So sad the tree farm on Highway 60 in Hartford closed. Two years ago we got a beautiful tree and there were so many of all different sizes to choose from. Haven't found a decent nearby place to cut a tree since. Paid way too much for a precut last year that wasn't nearly as nice and dropped it's needles twice as fast.
