I'm with Bren on this one. We were told "mostly grocery", when did it reduce to 40%? I , for one, do not want to see their inferior merchandise in my village.

A friend tells me that employees receive BadgerCare forms to fill out at orientation. Walmart is a parasite on America's back. Low paying jobs with challenging working conditions in the U.S., manufacturers forced to outsource work to China to keep their contracts, and exploited workers overseas.

Great for the new Walmart and all the people it will employ. For the taxes Walmart will pay for years and all the income tax the employees will pay, the money the landscapers, lot cleaner, snow plowers, truckers and on and on..That is how it works. And when I go there to shop I may by my gas at the SA or stop at the Mall to spend some money there also....
Got a problem with the Badger Care issue and Walmart? Well take it up with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed and Mr and Mrs, I want Obama care. This is the intent of Obama care. Hows that Hope and Change working for you now?

I'm not a snob, but I do appreciate value for money. After several expensive misadventures with Walmart merchandise, I realized that I was better off spending a few more dollars at the outset to buy items that would last. I also look for items made in the United States first and foremost, which is becoming almost impossible these days because of all the outsourced manufacturing jobs.

Being a realist also let me share my real experience with Walmart. First let's check labels. Walmart has as many if not more made in America items now than simaliar outlets. Part of health insurance factors is that Walmart hires people others do not. The single moms, elders, and low income family heads. All of these catagories are on Badgercare when they come on board and continue till their family reduces or their earnings go up. I have seen many people get a real chance to prove themselves and advance at Walmart. People who had beem working elsewhere for less and no chance for benefits through a company. They are now earning more and can consider company insurance if Obamacare does not force it higher. Most employees in my very informal poll liked working there and wanted more pay only because the overall price of everything has risen not because they felt underpaid. I am not a mall shopper so my using this Walmart will not hurt them but it will take my $$ from the 27th street store. Being on a very limited income the gas savings will be nice and I already use Greendales

Patriot, corporate decisions about store placement are based solely on profit. If profits aren't being made, they leave, with no concern about the devastation/unemployment left in their wake. We've seen many examples of this in Wisconsin over the past few decades. Walmart is no different, leaving empty big box shells all over the U.S. as they leave an area or build even larger structures.

Concerning your comments about firearms, the police department warns continuously about valuables in cars. Personally and for that reason I don't keep anything in my car that I can't live without. I keep a throw in the back seat to cover groceries that don't fit in my trunk, and hope for the best.

I know many people who shop at Walmart because they believe they are getting "bargains." They haven't been personally impacted by Walmart's business practices (yet) and could care less that they are directly contributing to America's economic woes by shopping there. It reminds me of that old expression, "It's a recession when your neighbor loses his job. It's a depression when it happens to you."

Joana Briggs, the facts about Walmart's egregious hiring and employment practices are well documented because of litigation, etc. You do see a few disabled people working at Walmart because the corporation recruits them for big tax breaks. They can afford to pay good wages and provide good benefits but do not. I can't in good conscience shop there.
