Apartments are no longer part of the Village Center redevelopent concept, Village President John Hermes wrote in a letter to Greendale residents.
Last night the Village held an open house that filled the Greendale Safety Center with concern regarding apartment buildings in the five concepts for redevelopment of the municipal parking lot on Parking Street.
Greendale residents Jackie Kraemer and Luke Huberty ran an unofficial exit poll by the door at the open house. They collected 197 signatures against the apartment buildings and 3 in favor them.
After hearing residents' concerns Village President John Hermes wrote the letter below:
Dear Greendale Neighbors:
One of the many things that make our community great is our commitment to making the Village the best it can be. Greendale is thriving, thanks in large part to recent development efforts and smart decision making by our Village leaders and input from our residents and business owners. The recent open house regarding concepts for a redevelopment of the Village Center is another decision making process. After reviewing several proposed concepts, Village Residents, as well as Village Board members, voiced concerns regarding the inclusion of housing options in the redevelopment concepts. On behalf of the Village, I want to assure you that we heard your feedback and it will be incorporated into the ongoing public process. Specifically, we will be working with our Plan Commission to develop concepts that do not include housing, for consideration by the Plan Commission and Village Board.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the process thus far. I encourage you to remain engage as the concepts are considered by the Plan Commission and Village Board and to contact your Village Board member with any additional feedback. If you wish to receive additional information and notifications about future meetings on the redevelopment concepts, please contact the Assitant to the Village Manager, Ms. Sarah Jankowski at 414-423-2100 or firstname.lastname@example.org
