$1.7 Million Riverfront Home Ideal for Kayakers, Canoeists
Mequon luxury home along Milwaukee River also has two garages that can hold seven vehicles.
From elegant and stately mansions to modern, environmentally friendly abodes, the Milwaukee suburbs are chock-full of one-of-a-kind homes for sale. Each week, Patch highlights one "Wow House" that caught our attention.
This week, it's a home at 3318 W Riverland Drive in Mequon on the banks of the Milwaukee River.
This custom-build home has 290 feet of riverfront frontage and includes unlimited vistas of privacy, woods and water.
This 5,200-square-foot home also has 10-foot-tall ceilings and it includes a gourmet kitchen a breakfast bar, double island and top-of-the line appliances.
And if you can afford this six-bedroom home, you also probably have more than one car in the family. Then you'll be glad to know the home actually comes with two garages — a heated three-car garage and a detached four-car garage.
The home, which was built in 2005, was assessed at $1.4 million in 2011, and property taxes were about $22,000.
With an asking price of $1.725 million, this home, which has been on the market about seven weeks, is being offered by Coldwell Banker - North Shore. To schedule a showing, contact broker Katie Falk at (414) 906-3800.

You don't want to swim in the river? What could possibly go wrong?
Nice house, for once.

Any house more than 200K is a waste of money.
OOH Looky looky what I got! PFFFFT....

That's a pretty short sighted opinion. Just because you are not able to afford a house > $200k, doesn't make it wrong. Why don't you get off your butt and get a job.

Just saying..... I suspect they have really, really big cars to go with the big house and big ego. And, potentially the type that lives from giant check to giant check. Big houses make no impression on me, unless there is no mortgage. By the way, who on earth wants to pay $22K a year in taxes. How much garbage pickup and street plowing does that get ya?

Poor Jerry, still stuck in Obama class warfare. I assume that this home owner pays a lot in taxes to support ole Jerr. Of course Jerr probably has his free Obama phone, food stamps and subsidized housing. Just saying but I am sure ole Jerr is very proud of his Junk.

$22K a year taxes was at the previous tax rate and an older, smaller assessed value. Usually the property taxes have a huge jump immediately following sale. Plan on paying at least $25K if you buy it.
I'd also question purchasing such a property unless you really plan to use it to the fullest. Between property maintainance, taxes, and heating/cooling you're spending almost enough to buy a small home every year, and those are pure expenses with zero return. But for the right person it could make a great home.

JMB. Wrong assumptions sir, or madam. Shall I assume you're the homeowner? :)

The taxes cost more (a lot more) than my mortgage. Hmmm, income inequality gap right before our eyes

Ken - if you are complaining that your income is unequal to someone else, specifically the person that could own this home, here's what you can do. Get a different job - one that pays more. If that is not possible, go to school to get the skills needed for a better job. Most importantly, don't whine and be envious of those that have worked harder than you and have acquired more. That's pathetic.

Don't worry, Ken. The plan is to tax people who can afford a house like this even more in order to punish them for having something you don't. Hopefully that'll make you happy.

I just love all these envious people that assume some one was just handed enough money to buy a home like this. Unless they were the heir to someone really really rich they undoubtedly got an education and worked very hard. Something a lot of people seem unwilling to do. For the record, I could not afford to purchase this home, I can barely afford the one that I have as it is. I am very happy in my 1200 square foot home but if I decided I wanted to purchase this home, I would figure out what it would take for me to get it and not whine about it.
